A longtime member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, she dedicated her life to advancing justice and equal rights. Her legacy continues to inspire generations. She was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Congressional Gold Medal, and her legacy is honored in the U.S. Capitol’s National Statuary Hall."
